This election wasn’t necessarily about voting someone in as it much as it was about voting someone out. Although I agree that the cries of racism and injustice have plagued our land for far too long, it is not anything new and we should not be alarmed. We should not live in fear nor should we allow the opinions of others to dictate our daily lives. Being connected to God matters more now than it ever did.
Long before desegregation, racism and social injustice had been embedded into the hearts of others, governing our land, our policies, and our schools. It’s only in and through revelation that we find the hope, courage, and strength to survive.
“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away: and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:1-4)
For followers of Jesus, this last battle is the culmination of everything promised in the Bible - a picture of ultimate hope. God will fight this battle on behalf of His people so that the victory may be complete and the glory may be His alone. He will make all things new.
When the new Heaven and the new earth are consummated, they will be without the presence of evil or even the potential for evil. God’s people will live in His Kingdom, walking intimately with Him the way Adam and Eve did in the garden. This will happen in the place designated by God, the new Jerusalem. God’s promise to reverse the curse placed on humanity for its rebellion and to restore perfect relationship with His people will finally reach its fulfillment. And there will be peace. (KJV Cross Reference Study Bible)
In the days following the election, as a believer, it was important for me to remember that “my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ love and righteousness. As Christians, we are called to pursue peace with and among each other, ultimately knowing that true peace rests in the hands and the heart of Jesus.
“These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world, you shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
